Carlene Maley Hutchins

1911 – 2009

Carlene Maley Hutchins is a women I can’t believe I never heard of before. Not only did she write a book on DNA and a children’s book on the moon moth but she also became a violin maker, or luthier, and crafted a perfect octet of string instruments.

Read more! My friend Erika found Hutchins when she read a review of a new biography by Quincy Whitney, American Luthier – Carlene Hutchins the Art and Science of the Violin. For my NH pals, she spent her final years near Lake Winnipesaukee where she had a summer home.
