The Beehive Ladies

Margaret Vinci Heldt
1918 – 2016
Margaret Vinci Heldt, the inventor of the beehive “hairdo,” won the National Coiffure Championship in 1954. The Chicago native designed the hairdo for Modern Beauty Shop, a trade publication. The added bee decoration gave the “do” its name.

Dusty Springfield
1939 – 1999
Dusty Springfield was a British pop star and record producer. Dusty in Memphis is not to be missed with my personal favorite, “Son of a Preacher Man.”

Amy Winehouse
1983 – 2011
Amy Winehouse was an exceptional singer who died way too early.

Audrey Hepburn
1929 – 1993
Grace and beauty came together in the form of Audrey Hepburn, film star and humanitarian.

Florence Ballard
1943 – 1976
One of the original Supremes, Florence Ballard fought her demons—battling alcoholism until her untimely death from a heart attack.

Divine
1945 – 1988
Harris Glenn Milstead was an American
actor, stage star and drag queen best known
for his work with filmaker John Waters.

Jayne Mansfield
1933 – 1967
Jayne Mansfield was a film, theatre and television star who is now best known as the mother of actresss Mariska Hargitay. Another tragic end for a Beehive Lady. 🙁
